The role of forensic accountants in the divorce process


In all divorces, the obligation of the court is to identify value and distribute the assets. And a lot of times you have different forensic accountants who will use a different valuation method for various assets. So in addition to working through the valuation issues, then you need to distribute the assets. Which party wants to keep what asset.

Oftentimes, the parties both might want to retain the marital home or the parties both might want to retain a certain account. In those situations, it makes it a little bit more difficult to resolve the issue because then we need to focus on which party would keep that particular asset upon the divorce being finalized.
