Florida Panthers Captain Aleksander Barkov Receives the Key to the City of Boca Raton

Some honors celebrate extraordinary achievements. Others recognize individuals whose character, leadership, and contributions have made a lasting impression on their communities. For Florida Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov, receiving the Key to the City of Boca Raton is a celebration of both.

On October 8, 2026, Boca Raton Mayor Andy Thomson presented Barkov with the Key to the City, recognizing one of South Florida’s most accomplished professional athletes and a longtime member of the Boca Raton community.

For Brodie Friedman partner Jason Brodie, the occasion was particularly meaningful. Jason originated the idea of honoring Barkov and approached Mayor Thomson with the proposal, helping set the stage for a special tribute to a hometown champion.

A Champion Who Calls Boca Raton Home

Although Barkov’s accomplishments have made him a household name among hockey fans, his connection to Boca Raton is a personal one.

Barkov has called Boca Raton home since he was 18 years old. Throughout his remarkable NHL career, he has maintained that connection while becoming one of the most respected leaders in professional hockey.

As captain of the Florida Panthers, Barkov helped lead the franchise to back-to-back Stanley Cup championships, bringing extraordinary excitement and pride to South Florida sports fans.

Known for his exceptional skill, professionalism, and understated leadership, Barkov has earned admiration well beyond the hockey rink.

His recognition by the City of Boca Raton celebrates not only what he has accomplished as an athlete, but also his longstanding connection to the community he calls home.

Celebrating Excellence and Community

For Jason Brodie, recognizing Barkov was an opportunity to celebrate someone whose achievements reflect positively on the entire community.

By bringing the idea to Mayor Thomson, Jason helped initiate a civic recognition that places Barkov among those honored for their significance to Boca Raton.

The presentation was a proud moment for Barkov, the Florida Panthers organization, and the many residents who have followed the team’s remarkable success.

At Brodie Friedman, we believe strong communities are built through meaningful relationships, shared pride, and recognition of people whose accomplishments inspire others.

We are grateful to Mayor Thomson and the City of Boca Raton for honoring an exceptional athlete and longtime resident.

Congratulations, Aleksander Barkov, on receiving the Key to the City of Boca Raton. We’re proud to call you one of our own.
