How do Prenuptial Agreements Work?

A prenuptial is an agreement made by a couple before the wedding concerning the ownership of certain assets and liabilities and discusses additional issues that are important to you, such as alimony. If the agreement is valid, the court has to follow the contract made between the parties, but there are a few exceptions that you should know about before signing a prenup and before you get to court to enforce it. If you can’t get this done before the marriage, we can also do what’s called a postnuptial agreement. If you have questions about a prenuptial or a postnuptial agreement, we suggest that you contact an experienced family law attorney.
