The inside track on Appeals in your divorce process


If you think that the judge ruled wrong in the ruling, if you think that the judge let in evidence that shouldn’t have been let in, if you think that something was done improper, then you have the right to appeal the order. Appeals though are costly, and appeals take time. I tell people when you go to court and you go to trial, it’s not the end of your case, it’s just the beginning because at that point the judge makes their ruling and the appeals process starts, and from there, there’d be appellate opinions which could bring it back down to the lower court, the trial judge, and then there could be more appeals and more issues, and it’s a never-ending saga.

And that’s what happens when people go to court. When people settle, they’re more likely to follow their agreement that they had a hand in rather than something that the judge wrote themselves because the parties couldn’t agree.
