How Alimony Laws Have Changed in Recent Years

Permanent alimony was in place as of two years ago, so on a marriage of 17 years or more, you were entitled to permanent alimony. There was a push to change that because if you’re married young, say at 20 years old, at 37 years old, you could be on the hook for permanent alimony for the next 50 years.

Whether fair or not, the law got changed. There is no longer permanent alimony. What it really entails now is people understanding when they’re going into a marriage. And they decide not to work and be dependent on the other spouse. So people have to be a lot more educated going into a marriage than they used to be.
